CBD skin care is spreading like wildfire and can be found at major retailers including Sephora, Ulta, and all over the internet. While these products are available just about everywhere now, they are usually very expensive. And if you’re already on the CBD train and take CBD regularly, it’s unlikely you’ll want to buy more CBD for your face and body.
Making CBD skin care products at home is fun, educational, and rewarding. It’s really easy to take your favorite skin care products and add some CBD to them to gain the benefits without spending an arm and a leg. From masks, face moisturizers, bath bombs, serums and more, you can turn just about any product in your bathroom in a CBD infused product!
Ingestible CBD oil is mixed with a carrier oil that is already known to be moisturizing. Synchronicity CBD tincture is produced with hemp oil which is used in skin and hair care products the world over. By adding this already moisture-rich oil to your skin care products, you’ll not only create an ultra-moisturizing product, but you’ll also gain the benefits of CBD.
While there is tons of research being done to ingesting CBD oil, there is also a fair amount being done to study the topical application of CBD. When applied topically, CBD will affect only the immediate and localized area. CBD doesn’t get you high and you won’t feel numbing or tingling either. This soothing addition to skin care is becoming incredibly popular for good reason.
What is CBD?
CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring plant compound derived from the cannabis plant. CBD is one of over a hundred cannabinoids (cannabis plant chemicals) present in hemp plants. Other cannabinoid compounds include THC, the plant chemical responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana. While CBD is found in the marijuana plant, it is both completely non-psychoactive (won’t get you high) and legal to buy.
You can find CBD oil all over the internet, but it’s worth it to say that there is a need to be cautious and do diligent research before purchasing. With the rapid growth and popularity of CBD oil, also came the opportunity for companies to make false claims without many consumers taking notice, or having the education to know the difference between a real and reputable product, and something that merely claims to be.
What is CBD Skin Care?
CBD skin care is the addition of CBD in normal skin care products. This trend is sweeping the nation and major cosmetic brands like Herbivore, Kiehl’s, Peter Thomas Roth, Milk, Josie Maran, Saint Jane, and now even NYX all have a CBD line.
DIY CBD Skin Care
We all have products that we use religiously on the daily. It can take years to find the right product that doesn’t make your skin too greasy, too dry, irritated, dull, shiny, etc. With this growing trend of CBD skin care, you may want to all CBD to your routine but aren’t willing to sacrifice your favorite products to begin the testing game all over again.
Lucky for you, you can DIY any skin care product you have at home into a hemp skin care product! Glowing skin properties is just around the corner.
In addition to making your own products from scratch, you can turn any existing skin care product, from any brand, into a hemp oil product.
DIY CBD Skin Care with Your Favorite Products
Depending on the container your product is currently stored in, you may need to transfer that to something different with more accessibility. You can purchase inexpensive containers on Amazon to store your new DIY CBD skin care in. If your favorite product is in a tube, you won’t be able to put the CBD product back into the tube, but getting a container with a lid will do the trick.
It’s important to note that you’ll want to use a clean applicator to remove your product from it’s new or existing container. This is a general rule of thumb for all products, CBD or not. Sticking your fingers into the container to extract the product can introduce bacteria into the product that can change the structure, enact early expiry, or simply contaminate the product with dirt and bacteria you’ve picked up throughout the day. Always wash your hands and face before applying product, and use an applicator like a tiny plastic spatula or the like or removing the product.
You’ll want to start with a few general items you likely already have in your kitchen:
- spatula or spoon
- clean containers
- permanent marker (and labels if you want)
Next you’ll want a high-quality, certified hemp oil in tincture form like what you can find at Synchronicity. It’s important to use whole-plant hemp oil to mix with your product rather than a balm or a salve. The oil will blend and mix smoothly with many different types of skin care including masks and serums.
Depending on how much product you have to work with, you’ll want to use anywhere from 10 drops of full-spectrum hemp oil to two tablespoons. While that is indeed a wide spread, you can use your best judgement for the amount of product you already have.
Here’s a quick guide to help:
- 1oz container use 10-15 drops of hemp oil
- 2-2.5 oz container use 20-30 drops of hemp oil
- 3-4 oz container use 1 tablespoon of hemp oil
- Over 4 oz container use 2 tablespoons of CBD oil
How to add hemp oil to your skin care products
- Begin by removing all of the product from its existing container to thoroughly and properly mix in the hemp oil.
- In a porcelain or ceramic bowl (not metal or steel) empty to the contents of the container. If you’re emptying out a tube (a wet mask for example) be sure to squeeze out every last bit as you’ll be disposing of that container and relocating your new product into a fresh container.
- Add the recommended amount of hemp oil to your product and either use the spatula or whisk to thoroughly mix the product.
- Choose your new container and add the product to the new container. Either using a label or by writing directly on the lid, grab your permanent marker and make a note of what the product is.
Now you can use and enjoy your DIY CBD skin care from your favorite product as usual!
A fun thing to do to track your progress and the effectiveness of your creation is to take “before” and ”after” photos of the area you’ll be using the product!
